Hacks To Make Holiday Travel Cheaper And Less Stressful

This time of year, lots of people are traveling, which can make something that’s already hectic even more stressful. But if you’re flying during the holiday season, flight attendant Esther Sturrus is revealing some ways to save on flights and even make the trip less stressful.

The KLM Dutch Airlines Employee shares these tips for scoring a cheaper flight:

  • Fly in the middle of the week when possible, as those flights tend to be less expensive than weekend departures.
  • Set up fare alerts to find out about price drops ASAP.
  • Be flexible about the way you get to your final destination. Being willing to take a connecting flight instead of a direct one can save you a “significant amount.”
  • Be flexible about dates, too, as sometimes just a day can really lower the cost.
  • Compare prices between the airline’s website and their app because some offer deep discounts when you book through their app.

To help stay calm and ease stress during holiday travel chaos, Sturrus suggests:

  • Consider shipping gifts or bulky luggage so you don’t have to haul it through the crowded airports.
  • Get to the airport even earlier than usual to make it less stressful when there are unexpected delays in lines.
  • Bring noise-canceling headphones in your carry-on, you’re going to need them.
  • Use airline apps to stay updated on flight changes and to check-in quickly.
