Reba McEntire spoke about wedding planning with her fiancé, actor Rex Linn, during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on Monday (December 8).

McEntire, 70, and Linn, 69, announced their engagement on the red carpet at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in September. McEntire has since shared that she and Linn actually got engaged on Christmas Eve in 2024. She previously explained in interviews that because of the devastating wildfires that broke out in L.A. in January, it didn’t seem right to announce the engagement after the holidays.

Drew Barrymore congratulated the legendary country star on her engagement, and gushed over the “beautiful” ring. She asked McEntire, “are you going to be engaged for a while, may I ask?”

“We have been (engaged) for almost a year now,” McEntire said. “And we’re like — people say, ‘when are you gonna get married?’ And we don’t know. We’re loving being engaged. We love planning. So, whenever we get to a point where we can take that time and be relaxed about it and plan the wedding, we’ll be fine with that, too.”

McEntire first met Linn on the set of The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw in the early 90s. They reconnected while working on Young Sheldon in early 2020, and have been together ever since. On The Drew Barrymore Show, McEntire and Linn reflected on the “charming origin story” of their nicknames for one another (McEntire is “Tater Tot,” and Linn is “Sugar Tot”). They also spoke about starring alongside one another in Happy’s Place, a sitcom in which McEntire plays “a tough but lovable woman who inherits her late father’s Tennessee tavern - only to discover that her new co-owner is also the half-sister she never knew she had,” per NBC. The cast also includes Belissa EscobedoPablo CastelblancoTokala Black Elk and Melissa Peterman, who also starred with McEntire on Reba, a beloved series that ran in the early 2000s.

A Reba-Rex wedding is going to be very different,” McEntire said of her upcoming marriage during a recent appearance on TODAY. “It’s gonna be low key, lots of fun, lots of people, lots of food. Our big motto is ‘have fun.’”
